MAKE YARN WITH ME
Pine Needle Baskets Class
I’ll be teaching at the Overland Park Arboretum.
In this class, we will learn the basics of making a coiled basket from pine needles, a skill that can be applied to twines and other foraged materials. The price per student includes all class materials. Ages 12 and up. Meet in the Education Center.

The first weekend of April is Easter weekend, so instead, we’ll be meeting for our spin-in on the SECOND SATURDAY. Join us from 10-2. We’ll have a potluck lunch, so feel free to bring something to share if you’d like.
Natural Cordage Workshop
I’ll be teaching at the Overland Park Arboretum.
Using found materials, we’ll learn how to turn native and invasive plants into cordage, which can be used for binding and basketry. The price per student includes all class materials. Ages 12 and up.

Learn the basics of natural dyeing with plants you can grow in your own garden with Luthvarian Fiber Arts artist, Meagan Condon. Students will go home with a skein of yarn they dye themselves with plants from the Arboretum's Gardens and the knowledge to start experimenting with the plants in and around their own homes. Beginning Spindle Spinning
I’ll be teaching beginning spindle spinning at the Overland Park Arboretum!
Are you a passionate knitter ready to deepen your understanding of yarn? Have you woven your way to the end of your stash? In this class, you will learn to make your own yarn using a drop spindle. Create unique yarns you can’t buy in the store and become a better knitter as you explore why and how yarn behaves the way it does. The price per student includes all class materials and extra wool to take home and practice with. Ages 12 and up.
Kids Beginning Spindle Class
I’m teaching beginning spindle spinning for kids at the Overland Park Arboretum.
Have you ever wanted to learn about yarn? How does it stay together? In this class, you will learn to make your own yarn using a drop spindle. The price per student includes all class materials and extra wool to take home and practice with. Ages 9-16. Parents & guardians are encouraged to enjoy a walk through the arboretum while their kids explore wool. This is a kids' version of the "down the rabbit hole" workshop.

Visible Mending Class

Visible Mending
Tears, rips and holes are all part of the history of a textile. Rather than hide these "defects," the art of visible mending uses creative techniques to highlight the repair. In this class we'll turn flaws into design features by felting, stitching, and patching with intent. Mending materials will be provided. Please bring an item of clothing you'd like to mend. Ages 9 and up.

Needlefelting is a craft where wool fibers are sculpted into shapes by repeatedly stabbing them with a specialized barbed needle. Foraged Cordage & Basketry
For over 50,000 years, humans have hand-twisted fibers into twine and cordage. It turns out, you can too! Spend part of the morning foraging 20 acres of pristine Kansas farm and woodland for twine and basketry materials. We’ll bring our found materials back to the workshop where fiber artist and expert Liz Bonny will teach us how to turn native plants into cordage and small baskets.
Student bring a good pair of close-toed walking shoes and clothes that can get dirty.

Liz Bonny is a weaver, dyer, and spinner located in Lawrence, KS. She owns and runs Harvestry by Hand, a fiber business aiming to connect and educate people interested in fiber. She loves to experiment with and teach process, using a mix of local and thrifted materials and supplies. Liz hosts a Fiber Meet Up, and is President of her local Kaw Valley Fiber Guild and the Kaw Point Fibershed.
