35 Years of The Wheel: Elizabeth Ashford Retiring

The Ashford family has been a force in the fiber world for almost a century. Founded in 1934, Ashford Handicraft Ltd. has produced a large percentage of the spinning wheels still in use today. In 1987, Elizabeth Ashford founded The Wheel magazine as a way of promoting the crafts and connecting textile artists from around the world. I am lucky enough to have a chance to be featured in issue 34, the final issue in its current format.

For 35 years, The Wheel has been a labor of love for Elizabeth Ashford. She has seen the magazine grow from a black and white publication with a few hundred subscribers to a full color magazine with over 6000 subscribers. Elizabeth has been instrumental in promoting the fiber arts and connecting fiber artists from around the world.

I know Elizabeth will continue to be a driving force in the fiber arts community. Thank you, Elizabeth, for all you have done for the fiber arts community!

We wish you all the best in your retirement.
